Why: I (Hannah) have gone to Jesus to the Nations for many years and each year it is a highlight of my year. It is a wonderful FREE conference for people of all ages who are interested in what God is doing in the world, thinking of pursuing missions or just wondering how to share the Gospel in their community. Last year a few of us from Acadia went down and it was amazing. I would love to see more people go down this year! Please email me at mainhannah@gmail.com if interested, or if you can drive. I can arrange drives and places to stay, but you will have to be responsible for your meals for the weekend, and chip in on drives. Still, it will not end up costing very much. Please join me; it’s going to be great!

Guatemala GP

It’s not too late to apply! The deadline has been extended to Friday. This is a short-term missions trip for two weeks at the end of May/beginning of June. We are making some pretty cool announcements at large group on Thursday, so be sure to come out! 7:30pm in Clark Commons. It will probably be shorter than usual. We will be letting you know about everything that is going on this semester, including small groups.

Car rally Saturday

If anyone who attends has a car, please let Kathryn know. You will be given $5 for gas if money is the problem. This is CRUCIAL.

So, here's the deal:

-We will be meeting at Clark Commons on campus at 2:30pm. The teams will then be decided and split into groups of 5.
-The Car Rally will start at 3 and go until 4:30.
-The goal is to check off as many of the tasks on the list, either by bringing back an object or taking a picture of the action.
-At 4:30 back at Clark Commons, the points will be tallied for each group and the the participants in the winning group will each win a prize.
-At this point, refreshments will be served (mmmm nachos!)

What you will need to bring:
-yourselves! Everyone is welcome! Invite your friends
-camera, if you have one
-pocket change (if you choose the tasks that involve a tiny bit of money, 50 cents)

We will need to know the number of people attending by *Thursday night* at the latest to organize the number of cars needed and food to provide.

Debate Friday

There is going to be a debate Friday on the topic “Does the New Testament present a reliable portrait of the historical Jesus?” It is between Bart D. Ehrman and Acadia Divinity College’s own Craig A. Evans. See http://www.religionsoup.ca/. I have five tickets available but I cannot go, so if you are interested in going, email me. It is all sold out!

Car rally Saturday

The plan is to have a pretty cool car rally (scavenger hunt type thing in vehicles) on Saturday followed by a get-together with food.

Mark your calendar for Shift Perspective Retreat, happening October 28-30^th at Malagash Bible Camp. Cost is $110 plus $20 for drives. In addition to the teaching sessions, the retreat includes worship of God through music, scripture and prayer, lively small group discussions, and free time. It is also a great time to meet new friends who go to different universities. See the registration form attached. Registration deadline is October 13. (That’s THIS Thursday)

On April 1st (please listen this is not a joke) we will have a Praise night
at Clark Commons at 7:30. Please come on time as we will also be doing the
vote for the new exec team next year. We would like to do this at the beginning
so we can pray for the team during the commission aspect.
Commissioning means that we will be praying for people as they go their
separate ways this summer.
If you are a graduating student or a student that is working at a camp or
doing ministry this summer or not you should seriously consider coming as
people would like to pray for you.
Even if you do not fit into the categories above we would still really like you to come to
pray and praise God!!

You may have heard that missions conference called Jesus to the Nations is coming up in Halifax. BUT if you haven't heard of it, here is some info. It is March 25-27 at Mount Saint Vincent University. There will be great speakers about missions like Ron Cline from HCJB Global, and George Verwer from Operation Mobilisation (also a missions organization). There are also exhibitors from different missions teams, like for example World Vision, Gospel for Asia, and Youth With a Mission, among others. There is also really great worship, and usually on the Saturday night there is a concert. There are workshops you can go to, on many different topics relating to missions. The best part of it is, it's free! “I go to this every year and it is always a highlight of my year, no joke.” Hannah Main ;) It is a great thing to go to, even if you don't feel particularly called to missions, it is still encouraging to see what God is doing in the world. We could arrange for some drives down together if anybody is interested. KINGSWOOD CAMP!!!
This Saturday, March 19th ACF is planning on going to Kingswood Camp for a work project. The camp will be providing tea, coffee, hot chocolate as well as snacks, such as muffins and cookies. They will also provide music and warmth so don’t worry about freezing all day outside, they will have the heat on for us cause they are nice :).

We plan on meeting at 2:30 in the lower sub parking lot and are hoping to go until 6. Our goal will be to paint the games room, it’ll be a great opportunity to serve the community!! We have one driver thus far, if anyone else is interested in offering drives, contact Aimee at: 094331p@acadiau.ca

- That we would have positive attitudes about school and seek to give God
glory with our work.

- That we would take time out of our school-busy days to spend time with
friends and with God.

- For Jane Gomez as she seeks to work through several logistics in order
to stay in Canada... to practically help her out, write a testifying letter
to support her Humanitarian application (see attachment for more info)

Perspectives

The title of the book is Perspectives: A Spiritual Life Guide for Twentysomethings. He addresses five topics: career, faith, relationships, character and romance.

This group is open to anyone who is interested in the above. They don't have to be 20 necessarily and it will be co-ed if both guys and girls show up. It will be on Fridays, from 12-1:30 in the chapel library and a light lunch will be provided as well.

A chapter will be discussed each week and it is written in such a way so you won't get lost if you miss a week or weeks.

This is the idea of the book in short: In our 20s we make the most significant and formative decisions of our entire lives. Colin Creel sets out to share both what he's learned as well as the advice of some older, wiser men and women who can look back with discernment of the life-molding decisions all twentysomethings face.

At the Chapel:

-On March 9th is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of lent. The service will take place at 6. Virginia the Chaplain is looking for readers, people who play instruments or people who want to do skits for the Wednesday services starting with lent and following at 6pm. If your interested in this way of serving God on campus please let Virginia know.

-On March 9 at 6:30 pm, the Ash Wednesday Service commences the Midweek Lenten Services. The traditional Ash Wednesday service involves the sign of cross placed on the forehead with ashes. It is a very meaningful symbol, reminding us that we are in God's hands. The statement by the Chaplain, "Remember you are dust, and to dust you shall return," is a promise that whatever our circumstances, we have been claimed by God through the cross of Christ.

-The community potluck to get to know what is going on at the chapel and with the chaplain is on March 15 from 5pm – 6pm. All are welcome. Virginia will be making a ham and we are all encouraged to make side dishes or dessert. Hope to see you all there!

2011-2012 ACF Executive Nominations
The majority of visioning, planning and direction for ACF is done by the executive team. Nominations for the executive committee of 2011-2012 are now open. We would like to have 4-6 people on the exec next year. Any member of ACF can nominate another member providing that they are a student of Acadia University and fully committed follower of Jesus Christ. In order to nominate someone for President the nominee must have previous ACF executive experience. If you would like to nominate someone you must present a piece of paper to Steph Ernewein stating your nomination with both yours and the nominee’s signature.
Example:
I Bob, nominate Larry to serve on the ACF executive committee for 2011-2012
Both sign it.
Once nominations close (which are March 5) the nominees will be presented to the nominating committee for an interview process. This committee will be composed of Acadia’s Intervarsity Staff worker, Andrea Pearce, a current executive member, and a graduating member of ACF. The nominee must be willing to sign InterVarsity’s statement of faith and ACF General Responsibilities out of their own personal conviction. If the nominating committee agrees upon the nominee they will be presented to the large group for election.

The nominee must be willing to sign InterVarsity’s statement of faith and ACF General Responsibilities out of their own personal conviction. If the nominating committee agrees upon the nominee they will be presented to the large group for election.

Perspectives

The title of the book is Perspectives: A Spiritual Life Guide for Twentysomethings. He addresses five topics: career, faith, relationships, character and romance.

This group is open to anyone who is interested in the above. They don't have to be 20 necessarily and it will be co-ed if both guys and girls show up. It will be on Fridays, from 12-1:30 in the chapel library and a light lunch will be provided as well.

A chapter will be discussed each week and it is written in such a way so you won't get lost if you miss a week or weeks.

This is the idea of the book in short: In our 20s we make the most significant and formative decisions of our entire lives. Colin Creel sets out to share both what he's learned as well as the advice of some older, wiser men and women who can look back with discernment of the life-molding decisions all twentysomethings face.

The Chapel also has Logos and Lunch on Thursday from 12-1 with a light lunch provided again. It will be a study of the Gospel of John. We'll work our way from the word becoming flesh to the Passion through the semester.

2011-2012 ACF Executive Nominations
The majority of visioning, planning and direction for ACF is done by the executive team. Nominations for the executive committee of 2011-2012 are now open. We would like to have 4-6 people on the exec next year. Any member of ACF can nominate another member providing that they are a student of Acadia University and fully committed follower of Jesus Christ. In order to nominate someone for President the nominee must have previous ACF executive experience. Hello everyone, I hope you don't mind all the emails I have been sending out this week, but I've got another which should prove to be a fun time!
The arena is booked this Friday after mummering at 10pm-11pm for a free skate. If you don't have skates, don't worry, plan ahead and borrow some (for free!) at the Wong International Centre.

Well, it appears that we are in our last week of classes...how did that happen?? I hope for everyone that this last push into exams isn't stressful and that we are all very efficient with our time, You Can Do It!!

For our last Large Group, we're going to head over to Hiliary's place and have an Ugly Sweater, Yankee Swap, Christmas Party!
Let me explain,
It'll be at Hiliary's house which is 14b Bay Street, the door on the right. If you don't know where that is, don't worry, Ryan has offered to meet people at 7:25pm at the dining hall parking lot (where the Acadian Line Bus goes).
It's starting at 7:30 this Friday, December the 3rd
It would be super if you all wore your ugliest sweaters because we're going to give a prize for the winner :p
Also you might be wondering what the Yankee Gift swap is...there is going to be a gift exchange of homemade or under $5 gifts, don't buy them for anyone specific, because this is how the gift swap gets interesting. So if you would like to participate in the gift swap, be sure to bring a gift along :)
It would also be nice if everyone could bring a snack (like cheese and crackers, fruit, or chips) or a dessert, mmmm to share around. Drinks will be provided, such as Egg nog! or homemade punch!
I hope everyone will be able to come out, it's going to be a great night, bring friends too!

Prayer group on Friday mornings will be happening at 9am (instead of 8am) for the rest of the term (until December 17th), we know how nice sleeping in is :)

There's going to be some delightful treats! And it's all going towards Becca, John and Mark to support them during their internships.
